Nature Night: Bat and Moth Night

Spend the evening inside The Woodlands after dark learning about bats and moths during Nature Night on
Thursday, August 25th from 6:00PM - 10:00PM!

A Nature Night like none other - Bat Night and Moth Night are together for a double feature evening! Explore the mystery surrounding bats and learn all the ways moths are cool. Bring a picnic, get creative with University City Arts League, and enjoy some sweet summer treats from Lil' Pop Shop

Join us on a bat walk through The Woodlands! We'll start at the Hamilton Mansion and walk as a group through the cemetery to the highest point in center circle, using a detector to look for bats along the way. Bats don't fly until it's dark out, so the Bat Walk will start at 8:30PM!

Then, grab your flashlights because the search for our resident moths begins! The Academy of Natural Sciences will be here to guide us through a night filled with the science of moths.

Marianne Gagnon is this year's bat specialist. She joined the Sewall Lab at Temple University in the fall of 2015. She is interested in understanding how environmental change influences the ecology, behavior, and conservation of wildlife populations. Marianne is also focusing on North American bat populations affected by white-nose syndrome, an emerging infectious disease. This event is FREE and open to the public. Parking is limited, so please consider walking, biking, or taking public transportation.

In the event of inclement weather, Moth Night will be cancelled and notice will be posted on our website and social media pages at least 2 hours prior to the event start time.
