“Rarefied Airs: Early Classical Chamber Music”
Steven Zohn, flute
Amy Leonard, viola
Heather Miller Lardin, bass
April 11 & 12, 2024
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
On Thursday, April 11, and Friday, April 12, Music at the Mansion returns to The Woodlands with a breath of spring – an evening of early classical chamber music written for viola, flute, and bass. The concert features lively works by Franz Anton Hofmeister, Johannes Sperger, Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf, and Michael Haydn. And while this may seem like an unusual configuration of instruments, it was not so when each of these masterful compositions was written.
“Rarefied Airs” transports us to a time when this was “new music,” eagerly anticipated and heard in the salons, ballrooms, and music rooms of grand 18th-century homes like The Woodlands’ Hamilton Mansion.
NOTE: Both Thursday and Friday’s shows will feature the same performances and music.
Music at the Mansion concerts are supported by a generous grant from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation.
