Nature Nights: Bat Night

  • The Woodlands 4000 Woodland Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19104 USA (map)

Nature Nights: Bat Night
Thursday, August 11th
6:30pm - 8:30pm

Explore The Woodlands after dark with a casual evening full of urban biodiversity. Look for the bats who live here and learn ways to be a Citizen Scientist. Get ready to discover some of the mysteries of the urban wildlife that calls The Woodlands home.

  • Pack a picnic and a flashlight and join us for a night of Urban Biodiversity!

  • Enjoy the cemetery after dark during August's Full Moon—the last supermoon of the year!

  • The Popalong Truck (a collab between Lil Pop Shop and Weckerly's) will be serving up the best of Summer in the form of popsicles and ice cream sandwiches throughout the evening.

  • Friends from Audubon PA will answer questions about birding and help us see if we can spot an owl!

  • Get a copy of the new book, Exploring Philly Nature, by Bernard Brown.

  • Explore the Philadelphia Orchard Project Learning Orchard at The Woodlands.

  • Join us for the Bat Walk at 8:00 pm, led by Bernard Brown! We'll start at the Hamilton Mansion and walk as a group through the cemetery to the highest point in Center Circle. Bats don't fly until dark, so the Bat Walk will start after sundown.

This event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is highly recommended. Consider making a small donation when you register or arrive at our information table so that we can continue to grow our programs like Nature Nights!

There will be limited parking available, so consider walking, biking, or public transportation.

If inclement weather arises, Nature Night will be canceled and notice will be posted on our website and social media pages at least 2 hours before the event starts.

This event is free and open to the public. Advanced Registration is not required but is highly recommended.

About Exploring Philly Nature:
Do snakes and salamanders fascinate you or make you squeamish? Have you ever listened closely to the birds chirping in your neighborhood? Can you identify the flowers growing in Philadelphia’s urban parks? (Moreover, are the mushrooms safe to eat?) Exploring Philly Nature is amateur naturalist, urban herper, and Grid contributor Bernard Brown’s handy guide to experiencing the flora and fauna in Philly. Bernard Brown is a writer for Grid magazine, co-host of the Urban Wildlife Podcast, co-founder of PhillyNature.org, and bat fan.
